I worked as an in-house editor for an independent UK romance fiction publisher for over a decade, and have been a freelance editor for eight years, working with major publishing houses and individual authors across genres as varied as crime fiction, academic sourcebooks and trade non-fiction. I was also a voluntary editor for a well-known British feminist website for six years. I am an English Literature (BA) and Publishing (MA) graduate.

I have a diverse set of editorial skills, ranging from development editing through to copy editing and proofreading, and am able to turn my hand to most editorial projects — from romantic thrillers to 500-page tomes on medieval history. I have worked on over 100 fiction titles in a range of genres in developmental, line, copy editing and proofreading capacities, and have worked on over 80 academic titles in copy editing and proofreading capacities. A handful of the fiction books I have edited have been nominated for (and won) UK awards. I also have experience of sensitivity reading / editing and have significant experience of working with writers who speak English as another language.

When I'm not editing books, I'm trying my hand at vegan baking projects (air fryer doughnuts were my last success story), fussing about in the garden, trying to convince my cat to pay attention to me and, sometimes, I even read books for fun (particularly enjoying books about sad nuns — à la Rumer Godden — at the moment). I also have a bass guitar, and one day will start learning again as my secret ambition is to be Kim Deal.

If you feel like I could be a good fit to edit your novel or other writing project, please take a look at the 'Work with Me' section for information on the services I offer and how to get in touch with me.

In the meantime, here are some photos of my cat:
