Work with Me
I'm a versatile editor with 11+ years’ experience in mass-market fiction (mainly romance, women's fiction and crime fiction) and eight years' experience in academic editing — and I'm available for all kinds of publishing projects. If you'd like to see some of the projects I've been working on recently, check out my 'Portfolio' section.

My experience across both fiction and non-fiction genres means I am just as well suited to untangling your super gory and ultra complex crime thriller plot as I am to making sure all the references in your PhD thesis are consistently formatted.
Here are the services I currently offer:

Development editing and line editing

Copy editing

Proofreading
What does this service involve?
I combine development and line edits so that your writing project gets the necessary structural attention (in regards to storyline, character development, etc) but also a rigorous line by line edit to ensure it's ready for the next step (whether that's a further copy edit, a proofread, or submission to an agent or publisher).

My development/line editing service includes:
-
A thorough edit of the manuscript file (using MS Word track changes) with comments suggesting changes/development.
-
An editorial report detailing any 'overarching' storyline and stylistic issues.
-
A style guide detailing spelling and formatting choices for use by a future copy editor or proofreader, or simply for your own reference.

I am also happy to discuss completing a 'two pass edit' where an author works on my suggested edits and then returns the file to me for further comment and a final copy edit.

Who is this service for?
At present, I only offer this service for clients writing fiction, and I would recommend it to any author (particularly if you're a debut) who wants to ensure their manuscript is in the best shape it can be, either for self-publication or for submission to a publisher or agent.

What does this service involve?
A copy edit tends to happen after development editing, with an assumption that the main structural work has been done on the project. When I carry out a copy edit, I am paying close attention to things like formatting and spelling consistency, storyline continuity, small plot holes, sentence structure, as well as the usual typos and grammatical issues.

My copy editing service includes:
-
A thorough edit of the manuscript file (using MS Word track changes).
-
A style guide detailing spelling and formatting choices for use by a future proofreader, or simply for your own reference.

Who is this service for?
I offer this service for fiction and non-fiction writing clients. I would particularly recommend it to writers working on academic projects who want to ensure clarity of expression and consistency in regards to things like references. I would also recommend it to fiction authors who are confident in the overall structure of their book (perhaps due to a previous development edit or rewriting) but would like a a fresh pair of eyes to make sure everything adds up and flows nicely.
What does this service involve?
A proofread should be seen as the 'final polish' to a project that has already undergone some kind of extensive editing or rewriting process — a (sort of) literal dotting of the i's and crossing of the t's!
When I proof a manuscript, I am on the look out for spelling and grammatical mistakes and small inconsistences with the assumption that plot or continuity issues will have already been rectified.

My proofreading service includes:
-
A marked-up file showing all changes made and mistakes corrected (I will also flag up any remaining plot holes or larger inconsistencies for the writer's attention).

Who is this service for?
I offer this service for fiction and non-fiction writing clients. I would recommend it to writers who are looking for that final polish after a professional edit or extensive rewrite. For writers who have not completed any edits on their manuscript previously, I would strongly recommend considering one of my other two services before seeking a proofread.
Please note that whilst I am happy to offer a full editorial assessment of your manuscript (taking into account storyline, characters, general writing style, etc), I am not able to assess the marketibility or 'publishability' of your book. For this, I would recommend contacting a literary consultant or agent who offers manuscript assessments.
I also offer a free CV editing service for those who fit certain criteria. Please click HERE for more details.
